RCC Paving - Specialists in the Installation of Roller Compacted Concrete

RCC

Roller-Compacted Concrete has the strength, durability and the practicalities of conventional concrete. It is used for any type of industrial or heavy duty road/pavement.

Speed of Construction

The biggest benefit of Roller Compacted Concrete is that it can be constructed more quickly and cost-effectively than conventional concrete or most other materials.  RCC is placed using high density paving equipment and compacted with vibratory rollers which eliminated the need for forming and finishing. As it is more densely and compacted, roller compacted concrete can achieve sufficient load carrying capacity quickly and, in some instances open to traffic within 24 hours after installation.

Roller Compacted Concrete is a rigid pavement/road which will easily withstand the load from repetative and frequent traffic using it. Due to its strength and stability and even surface it can easily carry heavy loads.  So it will not rut from heavy axle loads, nor shove or tear from heavy vehicles turning or braking.

RCC has the durability of conventional concrete including resistance to fuels, oils, solvents or other fluids.  It also has the abiltiy to withstand the extremes of heat, this has been proven. We were contracted in the Middle East to build roads etc. and RCC has the ability to withstand the extremes of the Middle East summer heat.  A properly designed Roller Compacted Concrete pavement/road will easily provide 25 years of service.

RCC is low maintenance.  It has fewer repairs over its service life, unlike other surfaces. There is no resurfacing requirements.

It only requires the occasional cleaning with a power sweeper.

Roller Compacted Concrete's maintenance requirements are MINIMAL.

Information

There are numerous cost savings associated with Roller Compacted Concrete.  Historically, RCC, has been comparable in costs akin to asphalt pavements/roads.  However, with rising bitumen/asphalt costs, RCC is actually lower in initial costs.  When compared to conventional concrete or interlock paving costs, RCC, can provide savings of 25% to 30%. Owners will appreciate the lower life-cycle cost associated with Roller Compacted Concrete's LOW MAINTENANCE REQUIREMENT.

Roller Compacted Concrete pavements/roads are environmentally friendly.  Supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag can be used, reducing the amount of Portland cement and thus lowering the embodied energy of a Roller Compacted Concrete mix.

Roller Compacted Concrete's lighter colour provides greater light reflectivity, which means brighter and safer surroundings as well as lower lighting requirements.  In fact, RCC, can reduce energy consumption by as much as 37% by either reducing the number of light fixtures needed or by allowing lower wattage lighting.

The lighter colour of Roller Compacted Concrete also means less heat is absorbed, resulting in cooler communities.  Utilizing a lighter coloured pavement/road such as RCC, have a solar reflective index (SRI) greater than the minimum 29 that is necessary to obtain the appropriate credits for urban heat island mitigation.
